Process

Ever wonder how the down in your garment got there? It’s actually more involved than you might think. From where we source it, to how we clean it, to what we ship it in, every step in our process ensures Allied down is the best on the planet.

History

Allied Feather & Down Corporation started in 1987 with a 12,000-square-foot plant in Vernon, California. As a family-run operation, our goal has always been to make our customers and partners proud. We do this by constantly innovating our products and processes to ensure the highest quality. Our commitment also extends to the environment and the animals whose down we utilize. Thanks in part to our ethical measures, we are the only down company in existence to be bluesign® approved.

Since the beginning, we have obtained a significant share of the down market. In 1999, our progress led us to opening a 350,000-square-foot plant in China specializing in processing lower-grade fill powers and duck downs. In 2003, we broadened our offering into the bedding industry. That expansion caused rapid growth, which led to the opening of another 70,000 square feet of warehouse and manufacturing space in addition to a new showroom in Vernon, California. A short year later, we set our sights on launching a line of private label, high-quality, synthetic-filled bedding products to be sold both in retail and hospitality. In 2010, we entered the home fashions industry full force with our new sister company, Allied Home, LLC, and in 2011, we opened a new 40,000-square-foot facility in North Carolina.

Today, Allied is the world leader in the manufacture of the highest quality downs and their blends. We play an active role in setting global industry standards for down as a founding member of the International Alliance for the Pro Down Initiative and a member of the International Down and Feather Bureau (IDFB). We are proud to be the fill of choice for top-tier brands in the outdoor and bedding industries. And our sights are set on even more innovation in the years to come.

Facilities

Allied operates several state-of-the-art plants: two in California, one in North Carolina and two in China. Because we are known for sourcing and providing the highest quality down, quality control is paramount to our success. Our in-house lab is fully staffed with experts who test our down for Content, Species, Fill Power, Average Feather Length, Cleanliness (Oxygen, Turbidity) and more. We also send samples of every lot of down we produce to an independent and IDFB-accredited down testing laboratory. This thoroughness and objectivity ensure our products meet and exceed industry requirements, so we yield the highest quality downs available.

As we grow, we are ever mindful of our footprint on the Earth, which is why we have implemented many environmentally sensitive initiatives including a system that enables us to use recycled water to process our down. We also recycle and reuse many of our shipping supplies in order to reduce our consumption and waste. And thanks to our commitment to not using any harmful chemicals or caustic substances that could hurt the environment, we have earned local governmental recognition for being a clean and efficient factory.
